Update: Advertising Restrictions Lifted — Better Broadcasts Ahead

Following Royal Assent yesterday, the repeal of Section 81 of the Broadcasting Act has officially taken effect. From today, broadcasters are no longer restricted from airing advertisements on Sunday mornings or key public holidays, including Christmas Day.

This long-awaited change means greater flexibility for broadcasters and improved programming options for audiences — especially over the festive season.

It’s a welcome step forward for New Zealand’s broadcasters and viewers alike — just in time for better shows this Christmas.
